Brief History

Switch on ceremonies

The Rural Electrification Fund (REF) board and management made a decision to conduct switch on ceremonies in all the provinces to promote brand visibility, to assess customer satisfaction and allow the beneficiaries to meet and mingle with REF senior staff, government officials and the responsible Minister of Energy and Power Development.

The switch on ceremonies are in 2 categories;

High Key Switch ceremonies.

These are ceremonies conducted at large anchor projects and presided over by the Minister of Energy and Power Development or any member of the presidium. They are funded by REF.

Low Key Switch ceremonies

Low key switch on ceremonies are small to medium projects where the Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution and their secretaries are invited to officiate. They are mainly organised and funded by the local beneficiaries

In 2024, REF managed to officiate at 6 out of 8 high key switch on ceremonies.
