Hotspeck Enterprises (Pvt) Ltd is a Private Company incorporated under the Companies Act Chapter 24.03 and is wholly owned by the Rural Electrification Agency (REA) of Zimbabwe. It was established in September 2012 and is located in the eastern highlands of Zimbabwe, which is the hub of forestry plantations. Hotspeck enterprise uses a fully computerized state of the art technology in pole treatment. This makes it a unique pole treatment plant in Africa and Zimbabwe in particular.
Hotspeck Enterprises prides itself in having the state of the art pole treatment plant which can achieve high preservative penetration.The pole treatment process is done under pressures of up to 10 bars and preservative temperatures of 85 degrees celsius which ensures that the desired penetration levels are achieved. The plant uses the creosote preservative.
With technology, the plant has exceeded the required 15mm penetration level by our standard governing board (Standard Association of Zimbabwe, ZW 120). Thus, the treatment plant is able to reach the 25mm penetration level thereby almost doubling the 15mm penetration level set by ZW 120 standard of poles and other regional standards (SANS 754, BOS 17, 2006, KS 516-2008 and PIESA 1001). Through the special construction of placing the autoclave (treatment Vessel) close to the storage tank, the filling and emptying timings are extremely short and the loss of heat is minimal. This guarantees an optimal penetration and impregnation of wood poles Every pole which comes out of Hotspeck treatment plant is certified and carries the Standard Association of Zimbabwe seal. The seal confirms that the pole has been treated according to the SAZ, standard (ZW 120-2013) and other regional standards (SANS 754, BOS 17, 2006, KS 516-2008 and PIESA 1001.
Hotspeck production capacity averages 25m3 of poles per charge, with the maximum length that can be treated being 13.0 meters. The Pole Treatment Plant has an average production of 5 charges under a single 8 hour shift. Hotspeck produces transmission poles and cross arms, telephone or fibre optic poles, fencing and roofing poles which are treated with high pressure creosote (BS 144) at our highly automated treatment plant based at Nyakamete Industrial area in Mutare

Unlike other traditional pole treatments plants the plant is full automated (fully computer controlled), this being unique as it can determine the retention and the penetration of the preservative in the wood fibres before the Treatment Cycle.
Through the special construction of placing the autoclave (treatment Vessel) close to the storage tank, the filling and emptying timings are extremely short and the loss of heat is very small. This guarantees an optimal penetration and impregnation of wood poles. The treatment plant has a large pressure pump that is able to generate pressure up to 10 Bars during the full cell pressure treating cycle. This is aided by two powerful vacuum pumps that are able to create a vacuum of up to 0.02 Bars, these helps in the sucking out of all air pockets within the poles as well as the excess moisture that the poles might have before treatment.
Optimal heat transfer is ensured via a heat exchanger that constantly keeps the impregnating material warm. The heat exchanger runs on diesel and uses Heat Transfer Oil to keep the preservative at 85 degrees during the treatment cycle. This makes it safe for operation and eco-friendly through a closed cooling system and the high-temperature combustion of all process gases. With such technologies we have been unable to meet the required 15mm penetration level by our standard governing board (Standard Association of Zimbabwe, ZW 120). The Treatment plant has far exceeded this bench mark having reached as far as 25mm almost doubling the penetration set by ZW 120 Standard of poles.
The Autoclave will be tilted at 5 degrees during the treating process which facilitate the dripping off of excessive creosote via grooves and shiplays this enable creosote present in the wood to run-off, making it environmentally friendly as all the preservation is prevented from dripping onto the ground. All the dimensions of the poles which includes diameter, length and volume) is scanned by means of the bar code reader and automatically sent to the control system, which ,based on the information sent to it , then chooses the impregnation program suited for the charge in question. The plant is equipped with a powerful filling and emptying pump which enable it to operate with reduced initial vacuum time hence this will enable fast class wood impregnation within the shortest possible time, making it the best ever state of the art technology in wood treating ever to happen in Africa and Zimbabwe in particular.
